Meta Fail

María Alba. But is it the right one?

Yesterday’s post featured a link to a remix that I’d made of a Celso Piña track. Or so I thought. Coincidentally, listening to a So Shifty mix today I noticed that it featured the same original song but attributed to María Alba.

Now this makes sense when you hear the vocals – the voice, lyrics, hell even the track title suggests it’s sung by a woman. I got caught napping on false meta. Red face. Wrist slapped. The collective consciousness of Google found no trace of it being attributed to Celso so chances are it was sloppy data management on my part or a hooky Colombian market CD. Schoolboy error. I should have given it more research. Although the all-ruling Google Mother Brain refuses to ascertain the track is María’s either. A few rapidshare links here and youtube videos there convince me enough to alter my post, but not enough to appease this once-burnt mind.

It’s common decency when blogging (and definitely when altering a part of somebody’s work for your creative purposes) that you check your facts and credit correctly but when it’s outside the reaches of moderated databases like iTunes or Spotify and we can’t find anything unanimous within our browser window where do we turn? Meta is slippery. Misinformation breeds. Noise grows. Echoes distort. There has to be a more effective way than mining for truth amongst the Google chatter.
